4 cops in ‘sabungeros’ case face new admin case

A new administrative complaint was filed on Wednesday against four police officers tagged in the abduction of “sabungeros” (cockfighting aficionados) before the National Police Commission (Napolcom).
The complainants were relatives of at least four individuals believed to have been abducted by a police team between February and April 2021.
One of the complainants, Elizabeth Sotto, said the charges were filed against Lt. Col. Ryan Jay Eliab Orapa, Maj. Mark Philip Simborio Almedilla, Staff Master Sgt. Mark Anthony Aguilo Manrique and Staff Sgt. Edmon Hernandez Muñoz.
They were among the 12 police officers administratively charged before the Napolcom on July 14 by whistleblower Julie Patidongan.
In June, Patidongan claimed that gaming tycoon Atong Ang paid police officers to kidnap and kill at least 34 sabungeros who allegedly cheated in cockfights from April 2021 and January 2022.
Ang has denied the allegation and filed a countersuit against Patidongan.
