AFP lauds partial ‘unfreezing’ of US aid to PH

Some key projects under the military’s modernization program will continue after Washington decided to exempt a portion of its foreign military assistance to Manila, the Armed Forces of the Philippines said on Tuesday.
“This is a welcome development on our part, and we are glad to continue. And it also signals basically our long-standing relationship with the United States…,” AFP public affairs chief Col. Xerxes Trinidad said at a press briefing at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City.
He was referring to the $336 million in foreign assistance that was exempted from the aid freeze ordered by US President Trump.
The money will be used for modernizing the AFP, particularly the “acquisition and development of Edca (Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement) sites and other programs,” Trinidad said.
