AFP: No truth to claim generals suing Teodoro
The Armed Forces of the Philippines on Tuesday brushed aside claims that many of its generals were preparing to file complaints against Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. amid supposed tension between the two.
“On the claim that the majority of generals of the AFP would be filing a similar case, that is a joke that should be laughed at and not replied to,” AFP spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea retired Rear Adm. Roy Vincent Trinidad said in a press briefing at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.
“No such [tensions] exists. Laugh at it. It’s a good joke,” he added.
The claim was made by a lawyer who filed a complaint against Teodoro for perjury and falsification in connection with his reported possession of a Maltese passport.
The lawyer said some AFP generals were considering filing similar cases against the defense chief. AFP spokesperson Col. Francel Margareth Padilla also said the military would not be drawn into what she described as “baseless accusations.”
