Angara confirmed as DepEd chief in minutes
It took less than seven minutes for former Sen. Juan Edgardo Angara to secure the approval of his former colleagues in the congressional Commission on Appointments (CA), which promptly endorsed his designation as Department of Education (DepEd) secretary.
The committee deliberation of the bicameral body, which was chaired by Sen. Raffy Tulfo, was so swift that Angara did not even have a chance to read his prepared statement.
“I would have wanted to thank the CA members for scheduling [my confirmation] early and to assure them of my willingness to work with them to implement reforms in the education sector,” Angara told reporters afterward. As instructed by President Marcos, he said he would focus on improving the quality of education and addressing teachers’ concerns. —MARLON RAMOS
