Annual multinational military drills kick off in Thailand

Kyodo News

One of the largest and longest-running multinational military exercises in Southeast Asia, Cobra Gold, began on Tuesday in Thailand with more than 8,000 personnel from 30 countries participating.

The annual exercises are being held in many provinces across the country through March 6, aiming to strengthen coordination among participating nations and develop military capabilities to align with current global circumstances.

Thailand and the United States, which are co-hosts of the drill, along with Singapore, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, and Malaysia, will fully participate, while China, India, and Australia will join selected activities, such as the humanitarian assistance program.

Among this year’s highlights are combined joint all-domain operations, tabletop exercises, field training, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief.
