Arnie Teves to stay in jail for Degamo case

Former Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr. would have to stay in jail, although the Manila Regional Trial Court allowed him to post bail in connection with a separate murder charge in 2019.

In an order by Presiding Judge Renato Enciso, the court granted Teves’ motion for bail due to the prosecution’s failure to present “strong evidence of guilt.”

Teves Jr. is a coaccused along with Hannah Mae Sumerano, Richard Cuadra, Jasper Tanasan, Alex Mayagma and Rolando Pinili in a case stemming from the fatal shooting of Bato, a bodyguard for Basay mayoral candidate Cliff Cordova in May 2019. But the court said the first three witnesses presented in the bail hearings lacked personal knowledge of the crime’s commission.
