TACLOBAN CITY – The Bureau of Fire Protection in Eastern Visayas (BFP-8) has announced it would be constructing fire stations in 15 towns in the region that do not have one.
“This year, as promised, we will complete the construction of fire stations in the municipalities without one,” said Fire Chief Supt. Adel Bautista, BFP-8 director.
Based on their records, the construction of fire stations in the Daram in Samar, and Lapinig in Northern Samar have started and were expected to be completed within the year.
The Daram fire station was already 85.27 percent complete although the completion rate of Lapinig fire station was at 6.52 percent, the BFP-8 records said.
The towns that have yet to have fire stations are Maripipi in Biliran; Almagro, Silvino Lubos, Tagapul-an, Talalora and Zumarraga in Samar; Biri, Rosario, San Vicente and Victoria in Northern Samar; and Llorente, Maydolong, and Mercedes in Eastern Samar.
Under and agreement with the BFP, local governments are to donate the land where the proposed fire stations will be built.
The lack of donated lots is the common reason why some areas do not have their own fire stations, according to the BFP.
Eastern Visayas, composed of the provinces of Samar, Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Biliran, Leyte and Southern Leyte, has 136 municipalities and seven cities.
