BI foils trafficking of 2 men to Russia
Two men posing as tourists to Russia were intercepted at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) after the Bureau of Immigration (BI) found them to actually be human trafficking victims.
The BI in a statement said the two victims, both male and aged 48 and 52, were intercepted in Naia Terminal 3 on Jan. 2 as they were bound for Hong Kong—claiming to be traveling for tourism purposes.
However, both passengers were halted by immigration officers who found inconsistencies in their statements.
Upon a secondary inspection, the passengers then admitted that they were indeed recruited to work in Russia, and would be waiting for their tickets and visas in Hong Kong.
The two shared that they were recruited by an individual on social media who assured them that their documents were legal and promised a monthly salary ranging from P100,000 to P150,000.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado warned the public against trafficking schemes anew.
