Boracay rolls out seamless ‘iPass’ for tourists
ILOILO CITY—The Aklan provincial government is rolling out a unified ticketing system to streamline travel for visitors heading to Boracay Island in Malay town.
The initiative, in partnership with PisoPay, promises to make trips to the world-famous island smoother, especially during peak holiday seasons, said Aklan Gov. Jose Enrique Miraflores.
“This would surely boost the tourism of Boracay,” he said, highlighting the importance of making travel experiences more efficient for local and foreign visitors.
The iPass system, which is already operational, aims to simplify the collection of travel-related fees and reduce the hassle for tourists.
Under the iPass system, PisoPay will manage the collection of mandatory fees for domestic tourists, including the P150 terminal fee, P150 environmental fee, and P50 for boat rides to the island. International tourists will pay a flat rate of P300.
PisoPay is a financial technology and a licensed remittance and transfer company regulated by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
How to register
With iPass, tourists no longer have to line up, manually fill up registration forms and make over the counter payments. Instead, they can now register their tour information online and pay necessary fees at their convenience.
Travelers can visit boracayipass.ph to register and pay the fees using the different online payment methods. Once payment is completed, they will have their own personalized Boracay iPass QR Code and simply present it for scanning upon entry to Boracay Island.
Miraflores said the Boracay iPass is part of their ongoing efforts to digitize and realize the goal of a “consolidated, smooth, convenient and effective travel experience.”
“The goal of Boracay iPass is to completely transform the island’s visitor entrance processes. Tourists can apply for entry permits and pay all required fees online using the Boracay iPass before visiting or departing the stunning island of Boracay,” he said.
“Long lines at several booths, the trouble of completing several forms, and the difficulty of making several payments are all eliminated as a result,” he added.
Game changer
The new system is seen as a game changer for Boracay’s tourism industry, which has been steadily recovering from the restrictions imposed at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Seamless travel is key to keeping Boracay competitive on the global tourism map,” Miraflores said.
He believed that providing hassle-free services would encourage more visitors to explore the island, especially as travel rebounds.
The partnership with PisoPay also signals a broader move toward digitalization in the province. PisoPay’s integration ensures that the entire fee payment process is transparent and efficient.
The provincial government hope this initiative would serve as a model for other tourist destinations in the country, setting a new standard on how technology could support tourism.
“We’re not just modernizing travel. We’re setting a benchmark for how technology can reshape local government initiatives,” Miraflores said.
