The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has distributed at least 35,000 family food packs to residents in Bataan and Cavite affected by the massive oil spill from sunken tanker Terranova. Social Welfare spokesperson Irene Dumlao said around 25,000 packs had been sent to Bacoor City and the municipalities of municipalities of Kawit, Noveleta, Rosario, Tanza, Naic, Maragondon and Ternate in Cavite.

The DSWD also provided around 10,000 food packs to residents of Limay and Mariveles towns in Bataan. The packs contain the usual fare of immediate food aid such as rice, canned goods and powdered drink. But Dumlao raised the possibility of granting other appropriate forms of assistance, such as emergency cash transfer and the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations. —KATHLEEN DE VILLA
