Chavit pushes ‘one-time, big-time’ rally vs corruption
Former Narvacan, Ilocos Sur Mayor Luis “Chavit” Singson on Monday urged religious groups to unite and stage a protest “as soon as possible” amid alleged anomalies in the government’s flood control projects.
Singson said he plans to personally reach out to various religious organizations as he called on Filipinos, regardless of political affiliation, to join what he described as a “one-time, big-time” rally.
In response to Singson’s allegations, Palace press officer Claire Castro expressed concern over what she called a “made-up story” intended to discredit the President.
“The people know who is truly patriotic or who just wants to advance their own interests,” Castro told reporters in a Viber message.
“What’s more worrying is that they are just making up stories to bring down the President. After not benefiting and not being granted their request, they start to destroy him,” she added.
This is not the first time Singson has publicly criticized the Marcos administration.
In September, Castro urged authorities to investigate him for inciting to sedition after he pushed for the President’s ouster.
At the time, Singson also called on the youth to join what he described as a “revolution against corruption.”
