Comelec ends candidates’ filing   for BARMM polls

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Saturday said a total of 112 individuals filed certificates of candidacies (COCs) for the 25 district seats of the Bangsamoro Parliament.

Comelec Chair George Garcia told reporters via Viber that 41 individuals filed COCs in Lanao del Sur, 20 in Maguindanao del Norte, 15 each in Maguindanao del Sur and Basilan, 10 in Tawi-Tawi, 6 in Cotabato City, and five in the Special Geographic Area.

Eight regional political parties (RPPs) also filed the nomination papers of their party representatives seeking seats in parliament, namely Moro Ako, Pro Bangsamoro, Bapa, UBJP, BGC, Mahardika, Raayat and 1ASC.

Deadline

The six-day filing of COCs for district and party representatives concluded on Saturday. The parliamentary elections will be held on May 12 next year, simultaneous with the national and local elections.

Republic Act No. 11054, or the 2018 Organic Law of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), provided for an 80-seat Bangsamoro Parliament. One-half of the seats are allotted to RPPs and will be filled up through a system of proportional representation.
