Comelec: No extension for submission of Soce

The election period for the May 12 midterm polls ended on June 11, nullifying various prohibitions such as a gun ban, the use of bodyguards by candidates, and the transfer of civil servants and suspension of elective local officials without the prior approval of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Wednesday also marked the last day for candidates and political parties to submit their statement of contributions and expenditures (Soce).

In an interview over radio station dzBB, Comelec Chair George Erwin Garcia said there would be no extension, noting that as of Wednesday noon, 32 out of 64 senatorial candidates, 83 out of 155 party list groups and 14 out of 28 national political parties have complied.

Among 41,215 local candidates, only 10,454 have submitted their Soce as of Tuesday.
