The Philippine National Police has filed charges of grave misconduct and conduct unbecoming of a police officer against a policeman who drew his firearm at a motorcycle rider during a road rage incident in Sta. Ana, Manila, on May 12.

The PNP said the policeman, who was not named in the report, was assigned to a polling center in Manila as part of covert security operations during the election period.

The incident happened on F. Manalo Street in Sta. Ana at 2:30 p.m. on Election Day.

Police said “the traffic confrontation with the civilian rider escalated, prompting the officer to draw his firearm.”

The policeman has been reassigned to the District Personnel Holding and Accounting Section of the Manila Police District. His firearms have been surrendered pending the results of the administrative proceedings, the PNP said.

“While our personnel face real risks in the line of duty, there is no excuse for behavior that undermines public trust,” PNP chief Gen. Rommel Marbil said.
