Cops burn P16M worth of marijuana seized in Benguet
The police have destroyed over P16 million worth of marijuana, which they found in a communal forest in Kibungan, Benguet, on Wednesday.
Police teams and members of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency uprooted and burned 8,350 fully grown marijuana plants and 120 kilograms of marijuana leaves spread out across four plantation sites totaling about 1,400 square meters.
“We will not stop. No matter how far or difficult the terrain, we will go there as long as there is information that there is an illegal drug plantation.
This is our commitment to protect our communities,” Philippine National Police chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a statement on Thursday.
On March 1, the police destroyed P29.41 million in marijuana plants and dried marijuana leaves in separate operations conducted in Mountain Province, Kalinga, Benguet and Ilocos Sur.
In February, Cordillera police chief Brig. Gen. Ericson Dilag said that technology has made it easier to find marijuana plantations, noting that a team of 49 drone operators has been formed to locate those hidden under dense forest canopies.
