Around 27 kilos of suspected “shabu” (crystal meth) valued at P183.6 million that were hidden in cans of tomato sauce were seized by authorities during an entrapment in Quezon City, the Philippine National Police said on Thursday.
Acting on a tip from an informant, the police, through someone posing as a buyer, contacted the alleged dealer about buying a kilo of the suspected shabu at a warehouse in Barangay Bago Bantay on Wednesday afternoon, according to PNP Drug Enforcement Group spokesperson Lt. Marlon Sy.
“The suspect concealed the drugs in tin cans containing tomato sauce for their cover story,” he said.

Right after the transaction, however, the suspect fled after he noticed that the man he was doing business with was a police officer, Sy added.
Police operatives are conducting follow-up operations to track down the man identified as 21-year-old alias “Clever,” who was supposedly renting the warehouse.
Recovered from the scene were a total of 27,000 grams of suspected shabu that were turned over to the PNP Forensic Group for laboratory tests.
“It’s possible there is someone higher than him involved here—the financier or the real seller because, of course, that person would not be the one selling the drugs,” Sy said.
