Curlee Discaya to undergo shoulder surgery

Keith Clores

Private contractor Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya may temporarily be released from the custody of the Senate to undergo surgery on his shoulder, Senate Secretary Mark Llandro “Dong” Mendoza said on Tuesday.

Discaya has been detained by the Senate since September last year after he was cited in contempt for supposedly lying about the reason for his wife’s absence in one of the hearings on the flood control corruption controversy.

“He made a request to undergo a medical procedure so we gave him permission. Tentatively, he will undergo the procedure on Thursday but he is still waiting for clearance,” Mendoza told reporters.

Mendoza said that Discaya will undergo surgery on his right shoulder and may be confined for about a week. “After a week, he will return here to the Senate to recover,” he added.

Discaya’s wife, Sarah, is currently detained at Lapu-Lapu City Jail in Cebu for graft and malversation charges over an alleged “ghost” project.

The couple, through their construction firms, were earlier linked to several allegedly anomalous flood control projects, leading to the filing of tax evasion and other criminal complaints against them.
