ORIGIN

Originally, the term LARP was linked to gaming, particularly those that are interactive or immersive. Live-Action Role-Playing or LARP is a common form of role-playing game   where players physically portray fictional characters in the real world.

In LARP, participants dress as characters, representing them through speech and actions while collaboratively developing an open-ended story through improvisation.

As Internet slang, larping (or LARP) means pretending to be someone you are not. It can also mean to fake one’s identity or to act performative for social status by putting a pretentious persona.

Larping is also another derogatory term or insult for someone who acts like a poser, or someone who is lying about their real persona or lifestyle.
