DILG notes drop in index crimes

Rape, injury and robbery cases in the first five months of the year went down compared to last year, according to Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla.

In a statement on Friday, following a meeting of the National Peace and Order Council (NPOC) with its regional counterparts, Remulla said rape incidents decreased by 31.85 percent, while physical injury incidents decreased by 30.21 percent, and robbery incidents by 26.47 percent.

Further, 4,096 individuals were charged for firearms-related cases, and 12,891 loose firearms were confiscated by authorities during the same period, according to Remulla.

The DILG chief also touted that 24,148 individuals were arrested and over 200 kilograms of illegal drugs valued at P2.17 billion were seized in 22,649 antidrug operations.

The department’s statement came after the Philippine National Police reported a 22.53-percent decrease in focus crimes between Jan. 1 and June 13.
