DILG reminds local gov’ts yet to go ‘cashless’

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has directed cities and municipal governments to hasten their shift to electronic payment and collection systems (EPCS) for their transactions with the public.

In a May 6 memorandum, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla called on the local governments to implement EPCS for collecting local taxes, fees and other charges to improve transparency, efficiency and convenience.

But they must also ensure that the transition to cashless payments must align with the Data Privacy Act and National Retail Payment System Framework, as well as with the guidelines set by the Commission on Audit and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Remulla added.
