DMW: Filipinos in Riyadh safe after missile attacks

Keith Clores

No Filipino was harmed following the missile attacks on Riyadh, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said on Monday morning.

Yemeni militant group the Houthis, Iran’s crucial ally on the other side of the Arabian Peninsula, launched drone and ballistic missile attacks on the Saudi Arabia capital over the weekend.

“The Department of Migrant Workers reported no Filipinos were affected following the explosions in Riyadh on Friday night and Saturday morning of September 18 and 19, after Houthi militants launched drone and ballistic missile attacks targeting the capital and energy sites along the Red Sea coasts,” the DMW said in a statement.

But the department also said it is still closely monitoring the status of Filipinos there.

“The DMW advises OFWs to remain vigilant and to follow guidance and advisories issued by Saudi authorities. OFWs who need assistance should immediately coordinate with the Migrant Workers Offices of the Philippine Embassy and Consulates,” the department said.
