Extra pay for workers on duty during Holy Week break
Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma on Tuesday reminded companies that would remain open during the Holy Week break to give the appropriate holiday pay to workers on duty. He earlier issued Labor Advisory No. 2, series of 2024 detailing the payment of wages for Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, which are regular holidays, and Black Saturday, which is a special nonworking day. Those who report for work on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday are entitled to double pay or 200 percent of their daily wage, while those on duty on Black Saturday are entitled to an additional 30 percent of their basic wage for the first eight hours of work. Employers who render overtime work on the three days should get an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate. At the same time, Laguesma reminded workers on duty or on vacation during the Holy Week break to always be conscious of their safety. —JEROME ANING
