Flight ban over Mayon until Sunday morning
The Notice to Airmen (Notam) covering flights near Mayon Volcano in Albay has been extended until Sunday morning, Dec. 14, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (Caap).
In its latest advisory on Saturday afternoon, Caap said the latest-issued Notam, covering flights near Mayon with vertical limits from the surface up to 11,000 feet, will be in effect from 8:30 a.m.
Saturday until 9 a.m. Sunday. “Flight operators are advised to avoid flying close to the volcano,” Caap said.
The aviation authority first issued the Notam over Mayon on Wednesday after new spines of dark lava were extruded from the volcano’s summit lava dome early morning on the same day.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology on Saturday reported 14 rockfall events on Mayon.
