Fuel tax, BARMM poll reset bills sent to Palace

Keith Clores

The bills seeking to suspend or reduce excise on fuel and to reset the parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) were transmitted to the Office of the President on Tuesday.

In a message to reporters, Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III confirmed the transmittal.

Senate Bill No. 1982 and House Bill No. 8418 amend the National Internal Revenue Code to grant the sitting president the authority to reduce or suspend fuel excise during emergencies. The final version of the measure had been cosigned in the House a day after Sotto signed it.

Meanwhile, Senate Bill No. 1823 and House Bill No. 8220 amend Republic Act No. 11054, or the BARMM Organic Law, to reset the region’s first parliamentary elections to the second Monday of September, aligning them with the national and local elections in May 2031, and every three years thereafter.
