Psalter: Week 2 (Green)

Ps 145:1-2, 8-9, 10-11, 13-14

I will praise your name forever, my king and my God.

1st Reading: Zechariah 9:9-10

2nd Reading: Romans 8:9, 11-13

Gospel: Matthew 11:25-30

On that occasion, Jesus said, “Father, Lord of heaven and earth, I praise you; because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to simple people. Yes, Father, this was your gracious will.

Everything has been entrusted to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father; and no one knows the Father except the Son, and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart; and you will find rest. For my yoke is easy; and my burden is light.”

Lectio Divina:

He will be by our side.

Read: Zechariah prophesies about the day the King will enter His city to restore Israel’s land and people, bringing peace to all. Paul conveys to the Romans that those who believe in the Lord do not live in the flesh but in the Spirit of the Risen Lord. Thus, they will no longer live according to the ways of the flesh or in ways contrary to God’s will, but instead will walk in the Spirit of God. In the gospel, Jesus invites His disciples to learn from Him, as He is gentle and meek.

Reflect: Jesus invites us to “take my yoke upon you, for my yoke is easy and light.” He recognizes that life comes with its share of pain and burdens. Rather than promising to eliminate all our struggles as we follow Him, God assures us that He will be by our side during our most challenging moments, providing the strength we need to keep moving forward. He encourages us to learn from Him, trusting in the Father’s love as He faced the challenges of His mission. How much are we willing to surrender to God? Are we genuinely convinced of His presence and support as we navigate life’s difficulties?

Pray: Father, please help me to hold on when life gets difficult, trusting that You are with me.

Act: Offer your heart and ears to those who feel burdened by life.
