Feast of St. Joseph the Worker

Psalter: Proper (White)

Ps 2:6-7, 8-9, 10-11ab

You are my Son; this day I have begotten you.

1st Reading: Acts 13:26-33

Gospel: John 14:1-6 (Proper Gospel for Joseph: Matthew 13:54-58)

Do not be troubled! Trust in God and trust in me! In my Father’s house there are many rooms; otherwise, I would not have told you that I go to prepare a place for you. After I have gone and prepared a place for you, I shall come again and take you to me, so that where I am, you also may be. Yet you know the way where I am going.”

Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going; how can we know the way?” Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father but through me.

Reflection:

Those closest to us may not always recognize the truth.

“Never judge a book by its cover.” I learned this lesson through experience. While shopping for books online, I was drawn to attractive covers featuring brilliant illustrations and vibrant colors. However, after purchasing several, I discovered they were poorly written and disappointing. This taught me that a book’s true value lies in its story, not its exterior. When Jesus began his ministry in his hometown, he encountered similar judgments. The people saw him merely as a relative, not as the Messiah. Their lack of faith prevented Jesus from performing many miracles among them, as belief is essential for wonders to occur. This story reminds us that those closest to us may not always recognize the truth and might reject the message we share. Today, we are called to be aware of our biases and open to the idea that God can communicate through unexpected channels. Cultivating faith and believing in the extraordinary is vital, even when it appears ordinary.
