The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.
1st Reading: Wisdom of Solomon 3:1-9
2nd Reading: Romans 5:5-11 (or Romans 6:3-9)
Gospel: John 6:37-40
Yet all those whom the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me, I shall not turn away. For I have come from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of the One who sent me.
And the will of him who sent me is that I lose nothing of what he has given me, but instead that I raise it up on the last day. This is the will of the Father, that whoever sees the Son and believes in him shall live eternal life; and I will raise him up on the last day.” And the will of him who sent me is that I lose nothing of what he has given me, but instead that I raise it up on the last day. This is the will of the Father, that whoever sees the Son and believes in him shall live eternal life; and I will raise him up on the last day.”
Reflection:
In Jesus, we have salvation and the hope of that resurrection.
Coming to Jesus, we will never be cast away; we are promised eternal life and resurrection on the last day. This is what Jesus assures his disciples. In Jesus, we have salvation and the hope of that resurrection, for he died for us and rose again from the dead, as St. Paul exhorted in his letter to the Romans. May that faith in our salvation and hope brought by Christ not only give peace to our departed loved ones who have gone before us but also bring peace to our hearts, commemorating them in the spirit of gratitude and forgiveness. It is a gratitude for the gift of their lives and all the good they have done for us and forgiveness for what they have done or failed to do. May our beloved dead pray for us.
