Gov’t, MNLF mark 29th anniversary of 1996 accord

Nearly three decades after the signing of the 1996 Final Peace Agreement, the Philippine government and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) renewed their commitment to sustaining peace in Mindanao, saying more work lies ahead to secure lasting stability in the region.

More than 500 MNLF members, national and local officials and security forces gathered at the University of Southern Mindanao in Kabacan, Cotabato for the anniversary program on Tuesday, which featured a “Serbisyo Peace Caravan” offering medical services, social programs and community activities.

Presidential Peace Adviser Carlito Galvez Jr. also led the inauguration of a Level II water system under the “Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan” Program.
