A farmers’ group on Sunday called on President Marcos and his family to take the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) and Light Rail Transit during “rush hour” in order to experience the “daily pains” of average commuters.
Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) made the call following viral photos on social media showing Mr. Marcos taking the MRT on Sunday together with first lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, their three children Joseph Simon, William Vincent and Rep. Sandro Marcos, as well as Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, Communications Secretary Jaybee Ruiz and other officials.
“If President Marcos truly wants to understand what the public is going through, he needs to experience the congestion, the long lines and pains of commuting from day to night,” said KMP chair Danilo Ramos.
“Making plans and presenting a good image are not enough—they need to see and experience reality,” he added.
“It is time for government officials to go out of their cars and experience the true state of commuters and ordinary Filipinos,” the KMP chair said.
“Transportation is important to the economy. There needs to be concrete and propeople action to solve this transportation crisis and provide affordable, safe and reliable public transportation,” Ramos also said.
