Groups air calls to keep Angara, Dizon in Cabinet

The Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) on Saturday expressed its support for the continued stay of Education Secretary Sonny Angara as head of the Department of Education (DepEd) amid the ongoing Palace review of Cabinet performance.
CEAP said it was hoping the President “would find merit in the accomplishments” of Angara.
“In a remarkably short period, he has effectively addressed numerous challenges facing the Philippine education system. Under his leadership, we have witnessed a leader who truly listens and has much to contribute to our government’s efforts,” CEAP said in a statement.
Before CEAP, the Philippine Business for Education also appealed on Friday for the retention of Angara, as well as that of Director General Kiko Benitez of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.
“There is an urgent need for stability within DepEd, especially in these challenging times … (I)t is crucial that the education sector remains insulated from political influences,” CEAP said.
‘One’ with transport chief
Also on Saturday, the Move As One Coalition called for the uninterrupted stint of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon as head of the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
“I and colleagues from the Move As One Coalition have been supportive of Secretary Dizon and his team at the DOTr because of their prioritization of public transportation and vulnerable road users who are in the vast majority,” said Robert Siy Jr., a coconvenor of the coalition.
Move As One Coalition campaigns for the adoption of more inclusive public transportation systems and a shift away from services and infrastructure that it said favored only 6 percent of the Filipino population or those who own private vehicles.
