House probe of P11-B expired COVID-19 jabs pushed

A party list lawmaker wants the House of Representatives to look into the reported wastage of some P11.18-billion worth of medicine and medical supplies, including seven million vials of COVID-19 vaccines, which expired while stored in the warehouses and facilities of the Department of Health (DOH).

Agri party list Rep. Wilbert Lee said he filed House Resolution No. 2117 with the aim of “exacting immediate accountability, corrective actions to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.”

He also pushed for “systemic reforms in the procurement, storage and distribution of these essential medicines and supplies that can save millions of Filipino lives.”

The Commission on Audit’s 2023 audit report had flagged the DOH over the expiration of around P11.18-billion worth of medicine and medical supplies, including seven million vials of COVID-19 jabs. In response, the DOH defended the procurement of millions of COVID-19 doses to save lives “during a global emergency.”
