House probe sought of OFW’s death in Kuwait

A Mindanao lawmaker has called for a congressional inquiry into the “tragic and suspicious” death of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Kuwait.

Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, in House Resolution No. 2151, said that his constituent, Dafnie Nacalaban, died under “suspicious circumstances.”

Her “premature and tragic passing brings to light the dangers many OFWs, especially those in vulnerable circumstances like household workers, suffer,” he said.

Nacalaban’s decomposed body was found in the yard of her employer in December after she was first reported missing in October. Authorities have taken her employer into custody.

Nacalaban had been working in Kuwait as a domestic helper since 2019.

“We urge the Kuwaiti government to conduct an exhaustive and an impartial investigation of the death of Dafnie Nacalaban, and to offer better employment terms for our OFWs,” Rodriguez said.
