Iloilo City starts fuel subsidy rollout for tricycle drivers
ILOILO CITY — The city government is distributing fuel subsidy coupons to tricycle drivers on March 25 and 26 as part of efforts to cushion the impact of rising petroleum prices driven by tensions in the Middle East.
In an advisory released Tuesday, Mayor Raisa S. Treñas said the rollout will be conducted in batches, with assigned schedules, venues, and Tricycle Operators and Drivers Associations (TODA) to ensure an orderly distribution.
Today, distribution will be held at Quezon Gym, San Pedro Gym, and Barangay Quintin Salas Gym, while on Thursday, beneficiaries will be served at La Paz Gym, the Penthouse Auditorium, and Barangay PHHC Block 22 Gym.
To claim the P500 fuel subsidy per unit, drivers must present their original driver’s license, a valid ID with three specimen signatures, and updated vehicle documents such as the Official Receipt and Certificate of Registration.
Operators managing multiple units must also submit a Special Power of Attorney, with free templates and notarization services available at the Atipan Center.
Assigned location
The city has assigned specific gas stations per route and will deploy personnel on-site to assist beneficiaries. Drivers are advised to follow their assigned schedules and may bring extra containers if needed.
The program is part of the city’s broader fuel assistance initiative, with public utility jeepney drivers set to receive similar subsidies in the next rollout.
Officials said the measure comes as global oil prices continue to rise due to instability in the Middle East, which has disrupted supply chains and tightened crude oil markets, leaving transport workers and consumers increasingly vulnerable to price shocks.
