Japan, PH agree to strengthen cooperation

Avatar

Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya paid a courtesy call on President Marcos on Wednesday in an apparent diplomatic push to shore up cooperation as US President-elect Donald Trump prepares to return to the White House.

Iwaya’s visit to the Philippines was meant to “confirm” Tokyo’s relationship with Manila under Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba who assumed office in October, Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs deputy press secretary Mariko Kaneko told select media on Tuesday night.

“The Philippines is Japan’s very important partner in times of very unpredictable and severe strategic environment that we face now,” Kaneko said.
