Lacson: DPWH to halt illegal Taguig projects

Dianne Sampang

Sen. Panfilo Lacson on Saturday said the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will soon issue cease and desist orders on Taguig City projects linked to supposedly illegal reclamation works.

“This will prevent the worsening of the situation where government money is wasted on contractors who are doing the wrong thing,” the senator said in an interview with DzMM Teleradyo on Aug. 15.

Lacson said he met last Thursday with Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon, who “guaranteed that once he receives the PRA’s (Philippine Reclamation Authority) request to issue ceast-and-desist orders, he will issue them immediately.”

He also cited his findings so far which showed reclamation activities in Taguig City covered at least 85 hectares, adding that these activities may threaten the Laguna Lake ecosystem where garbage that was supposed to end up in Rizal province’s landfill instead piled up at the lake.
