Leptospirosis cases up by 6 percent this year

The Department of Health (DOH) said on Wednesday that it recorded 2,177 cases of leptospirosis nationwide from Jan. 4 to June 6 this year, higher by 6 percent compared to the 2,046 cases during the same period in 2025.

Most of the victims, the DOH said in a statement, were farmers in Central Luzon and Bicol regions who worked in muddy or flooded areas.

It advised them or anyone forced to walk in flooded areas to wear boots for protection and wash the parts of their bodies exposed to floodwater.
