LTO flags 262 trucks for worn tires, other violations
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has apprehended 262 trucks for using worn-out tires or other road safety violations like overloading since launching in December a crackdown on unsafe trucks on roads.
“We have already issued show cause orders (SCOs) for almost half of them and we will issue more show cause orders to cover the rest of those apprehended.
The SCOs include both the driver and registered owner of these delinquent trucks,” LTO chief and Transport Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II said in a statement on Wednesday.
The LTO campaign was prompted by the Katipunan flyover accident last month in which a truck, later found “unfit to be operated,” hit several vehicles and left four people dead and more than 20 others injured.
The LTO also deployed more enforcers in Metro Manila and other parts of the country, particularly along the regular routes of delivery trucks.
