LTO summons SUV owner with 307 bus lane violations

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a show-cause order (SCO) to the registered owner of a sport utility vehicle (SUV) that has illegally used the Edsa Busway more than 300 times since 2022.
LTO chief and Transportation Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II said on Tuesday that an alarm has also been issued for the Mitsubishi Montero Sport, which is owned by a Quezon City resident whom he did not identify.
The alarm will prevent any transaction involving the SUV while the case is under investigation.
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chair Romando Artes brought the SUV to the LTO’s attention after MMDA close-circuit television cameras detected the vehicle using the exclusive lane for passenger buses 307 times between Aug. 12, 2022 and June 20 this year.
A verification done by the LTO showed that the SUV was last registered in August 2022.
Mendoza said they ordered the SUV owner to submit a reply to the SCO and to attend a hearing set at the LTO central office on June 26.
