LTO to launch ‘aggressive’ campaign vs unsafe vehicles in August
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has reminded motorists to keep their vehicles in good condition as it plans to intensify its crackdown on unsafe and unfit units nationwide in August.
In a statement on Monday, LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II said the “aggressive” campaign will be conducted simultaneously with the intensified drive against unregistered motor vehicles and expired driving licenses following a significant increase in these two types of violations.
“We are already finalizing our campaign plan and coordination with concerned agencies in implementing the intensified campaign against motor vehicles with expired registration and those unsafe and unfit motor vehicles on the roads,” Mendoza said.
“This should serve as a notice to motor vehicle owners to comply with your obligation to keep the registration of your motor vehicles updated. Otherwise, it would need to go through a more stringent process before renewal,” he added.
Mendoza stressed the need to crack down on unsafe vehicles, citing several fatal road crashes in the past months, which were found to be due to defective car parts and accessories.
“Road safety is a matter of life and death. On the part of the LTO, we are actively pursuing preventive measures through interventions to keep all road users safe,” he said.
