LTO waives P100 registration fee for motorcycle top boxes, saddle bags
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will no longer collect P100 for the registration of custom-made top boxes and saddle bags used for motorcycles as part of its efforts to support riders who use the two-wheeled vehicles for their livelihood.
In a statement on Monday, the LTO said that its chief, Markus Lacanilao, had signed a memorandum removing the P100 registration fee required for every top box or saddle bag attached to motorcycles.
“This will be a huge help for our riders who rely on their motorcycles for their livelihood, removing their additional expenses,” Lacanilao said.
But while it has eliminated the P100 fee, the LTO will still require the registration of all motorcycles with a custom-made top box or saddle bag.
Lacanilao said it is part of the LTO’s duty to ensure the engine capability and safety of all vehicles carrying additional equipment.
Certificate, not receipt
According to the LTO chief, the waiving of the P100 registration fee is in line with the agency’s “7-Point Policy Agenda” which aims to remove unnecessary payments. It also seeks to lighten the financial burden of the public who rely on motorcycles, providing them relief while still maintaining the standards of road safety.
According to the LTO, a certificate will be issued as proof of registration, instead of the official receipt it previously issued to motorcycle riders using custom-made top boxes and saddle bags. The process of issuing these certificates will be decided by its central office, it added.
At the same time, all previously issued orders, memoranda, policies and regulations that are not aligned with the new directive will be changed in accordance with the new rule, the LTO said.
It called on all regional directors and officials, as well as heads of inspection centers, to implement the new memorandum and to provide assistance to motorcycle owners to avoid delays in the registration process.
