President Marcos has designated several special nonworking holidays in Batangas, Bulacan and Leyte provinces this month in celebration of local festivals and historical events.

In four proclamations recently issued by Malacañang, the President noted that it was only “fitting and proper” to give Filipinos the “full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration.”

Proclamation No. 768 declared Jan. 20 as a special nonworking day in Lipa City, Batangas—known as the Philippines’ coffee capital—to mark its Coffee Festival.

The President also designated Jan. 23 as a special nonworking day in Bulacan under Proclamation No. 769 to commemorate the 126th anniversary of the inauguration of the First Philippine Republic.

The country’s first President, Emilio Aguinaldo, established the First Philippine Republic or the Malolos Republic at the Barasoain Church in the City of Malolos, Bulacan, on Jan. 23, 1899.

Proclamation No. 767 declared Jan. 24 as a special nonworking day in Carigara town of Leyte to celebrate its 454th founding anniversary, which falls on Jan. 25, Saturday.
