Marcos witnesses incineration of drugs

Saying he wanted to see for himself the process of “capture to destruction,” President Marcos witnessed on Wednesday the incineration of P9.484 billion worth of seized illegal drugs at a waste management facility in Capas, Tarlac.

The destroyed narcotics included 1,304 kilos of “shabu” (crystal meth) valued at P 8.871 billion that fishermen separately found floating off the shores of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Cagayan, Pangasinan, and Zambales.

“I wanted to see for myself the entire system, from seizing the illegal drugs, testing it, and finally destroying the seized illegal drugs. We have to be very sure that these seized narcotics are totally destroyed so that there’s no chance of selling these on the streets,” the President said.

“That is why I am here today just to see how the system works, so that we have a very, very solid system from the capture of the illegal drugs all the way to the destruction of the illegal drugs,” he added.

The drugs that were disposed of consisted of 1,387 kilograms of shabu; 411.3708 milliliters of liquid shabu; 138.8177 kilograms of marijuana; 0.1230 kilogram of ecstasy; 3.917 kilos of cocaine; 232.6 grams of toluene; 0.8020 gram of lidocaine; and expired medicines.

These were incinerated through thermal decomposition inside a sealed chamber at Clean Leaf International Corp., a waste management facility in Capas town. The process took 10 hours with temperatures reaching 1,000 degrees Celsius, followed by a 12-hour cooling process to ensure the complete disintegration of all chemical compounds.

“It’s my first time to see this, I was very interested to see this. I’m glad that the press is here so that you can also see the system for yourselves,” the President said.
