MILF party coordinator slain in Maguindanao Del Sur
COTABATO CITY—A local political coordinator of Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) here became the latest victim of the series of killings in Maguindanao del Sur.
Misuari Sanday Unos, 45, the political coordinator for the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP), MILF’s political party, was driving his motorcycle when shot dead by gunmen, also on a motorbike, past 7 a.m. on Monday in Buluan town, the capital of Maguindanao del Sur, according to former Maguindanao Rep. Esmael Mangudadatu, the UBJP’s candidate for governor in the province for the May elections.
Sanday, a resident of Pandag, Maguindanao del Sur, died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds in the head and body, Mangudadatu said.
“I appeal to our law enforcement agencies to address the rash of killings in the province as soon as possible,” Mangudadatu said in a statement Monday.
But he could not categorically say if the attack against his field coordinator was related to the upcoming election. He said he would leave that to the police authorities to investigate.
Since the campaign for the May polls started on Jan. 12, at least ten persons have become victims of gun attacks in the province, police records showed.
On Sunday, Jabber Amil Ambal, a member of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team was killed in Barangay Dapantis of Maguindanao del Sur’s Rajah Buayan town after he was caught in the crossfire when a group of armed men attacked and wounded Army Sgt. Panfilo Callar, of the 33rd Infantry Battalion based in Rajah Buayan.
