MMDA asks NBI’s help in probing scam using NCAP
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chair Romando “Don” Artes on Wednesday asked National Bureau of Investigation Director Melvin Matibag for help regarding a scheme that uses the agency’s No Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP) and has victimized nearly 200 people.
“Many people are receiving text messages allegedly from the MMDA about their supposed traffic violation and penalty. They will send you a link and when you click on the link, you will be taken to a site that is identical to ours. The only difference is the URL, but who is looking at that?” Artes said in an interview.
He added that the MMDA’s text notifications to NCAP violators do not come with links nor does the agency impose a penalty for late payments.
For his part, Matibag said the NBI’s Cybercrime Division would investigate the matter, saying the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center has also already acted on the site supposedly being used by the scammers.
