MMDA revives ‘heatstroke break’ for personnel
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reintroduced on Monday its 30-minute heatstroke break policy for field personnel either in the morning or in the afternoon to protect them from heat-related illnesses during summer.
Under MMDA Memorandum Circular No. 04, a staggered break schedule will be implemented for traffic and metro aides as well as street sweepers to allow them to recover from heat exposure while ensuring that field operations remain continuous.
MMDA personnel assigned to the same area will also be taking breaks alternately in order to “maintain visibility and ensure that traffic management and road clearing operations are not hampered.”
The policy, which will be in effect until the end of May, “aims to protect front-line personnel who continue to manage traffic and maintain cleanliness along major thoroughfares despite extreme weather conditions,” the MMDA said.
