Most of the 33 Filipinos who were in the bus crash that left two dead in Bavaria, Germany, have been discharged from hospitals and cleared to return to Milan, Italy, the Philippine Consulate General (PCG) in Frankfurt said on Tuesday (Philippine time).

It earlier said that several remain under medical care for serious injuries, although it did not specify how many were still hospitalized.

The accident occurred at 6 a.m. Sunday (around noon in Manila) on the A96 highway near Buchloe, Bavaria. The bus carrying the 33 Filipino tourists and two Italian drivers veered off the highway and ended up resting on its side. The group was traveling from Milan to Munich for the Oktoberfest.

Aside from the two Filipinos who were killed, eight others reportedly suffered injuries, according to earlier reports.

A consular team led by Consul General (ConGen) Marie Yvette Banzon Abalos is in Munich to coordinate assistance for the injured Filipinos and their families.

The team was joined by an Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa) rapid response group led by Administrator PY Caunan and Philippine Honorary Consul in Munich Stefan Detig.

The consulate said the team had spoken with doctors treating the injured Filipinos to assess their condition and determine what assistance they needed.

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) also said it was ready to assist overseas Filipino workers affected by the crash through its Migrant Workers Office in Berlin and Owwa, in coordination with the PCG in Frankfurt.

Continuous coordination

The consulate said it continues to coordinate with hospitals, German authorities and other Philippine government agencies to monitor the condition of the Filipinos and assist their families.
