Nancy Binay declares bid for Makati mayoralty

Avatar

Sen. Nancy Binay will run in 2025 for Makati City mayor, a post currently held by her sister, Abby Binay. In her social media account on Sunday, Binay posted a message that read, “Ready to serve … #Makati2025.”

The post features a photo of her holding a heart-shaped sign with “100%” written on it, signaling her full commitment. The senator initially vacillated on the run, because Abby said she wanted her husband, Makati Rep. Luis Campos, to succeed her as mayor.

But Nancy said “a growing public clamor” for her to run have solidified her decision. According to Binay, she was open to talking to Campos’ camp, saying she did not want any conflict within their family. Still, she stressed that her priority would be what was best for the city. —TINA SANTOS
