New Metro Manila police chief named
Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin will take over the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) as officer in charge effective on Saturday. In an order issued by Philippine National Police chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil on Friday, Aberin will replace Maj. Gen. Sidney Hernia, who will be commander of the Area Police Command (APC)-Southern Luzon.
Aberin was a former director of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Visayas. Hernia, named NCRPO chief just on Oct. 9, was administratively relieved on Nov. 7, initially for 10 days and extended for five more days. Anti Cybercrime Group chief Maj. Gen.
Ronnie Francis Cariaga was meted out the same suspension in relation to the Oct. 29 raid of an alleged scam hub in Manila. Among the issues raised were allegations of extortion and tampering of the security camera by PNP officers.
Cariaga will be reassigned as commander of APC-Northern Luzon, while Brig. Gen. Arnold Ardiente is reassigned to PRO-12, also effective on Saturday. The PNP has yet to release the result of the probe of the Manila raid, which was disowned by the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission.
