NO ORDINARY PEOPLE FOR POLICE
Alice Guo, covering her head with a white cloth, is surrounded by police escorts as she is brought on Friday to a Tarlac court that ordered her arrest before being transferred to the headquarters of the Philippine National Police. The dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor left the country in July after the Senate cited her in contempt for skipping its inquiry into her alleged links to the Pogo industry. She was charged earlier with graft and human trafficking and would be subsequently charged with money laundering and tax evasion. But Guo was nabbed in Indonesia on Wednesday and was flown back to Manila on Friday.
Another wanted personality who has still managed to elude capture is fugitive televangelist Apollo Quiboloy. Amid the commotion over Guo’s return on Friday, Davao police continued to drill (top right) inside Quiboloy’s sprawling Kingdom of Jesus Christ compound, searching for the bunker where they believe he is hiding.
A Senate panel led by Sen. Ronald dela Rosa, an ally of the Dutertes like the televangelist, inspected the 30-hectare compound that day, including the private hangar (above right) for Quiboloy’s aircraft and luxury vehicles, and was moved instead to criticize the continuing police operation now on its second week. —PHOTOS BY JOSELLE R. GOOD TIME FOR FISHING
Marikina City residents go fishing at the river on Saturday as they take advantage of a respite from almost a full week of rains brought by Tropical Storm “Enteng” (international name: Yagi) which also enhanced the southwest monsoon. Weather bureau Pagasa said the country may enjoy relatively fair weather this week, but warned of two low pressure areas that could develop into a storm by next week. —NIÑO JESUS ORBETA
