NLEx toll hike takes effect March 2

Motorists using the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) will be paying more starting Sunday, March 2, after the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) approved another toll increase.
Based on the new matrix, motorists traveling anywhere within the open system will pay P79 for Class 1 vehicles (regular cars and SUVs), P199 for Class 2 vehicles (buses and small trucks) and P238 for Class 3 vehicles (large trucks).
This translates to increases of P5 for Class 1, P13 for Class 2 and P15 for Class 3.
The open system covers the cities of Navotas, Valenzuela, and Caloocan up to Marilao, Bulacan.
Meanwhile, end-to-end travel—or from Balintawak to Sta. Ines will cost P416 for Class 1, P1,039 for Class 2, and P1,247 for Class 3.
The new matrix shows increases amounting to P57 for Class 1, P142 for Class 2 and P171 for Class 3.
More roadworks
Before this round of increases, NLEx was also authorized to hike toll fees in June last year.
The toll fee increase will help NLEx Corp., a unit of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC), recoup investments in recent years.
“From 2021 to 2024, the tollway company has embarked on infrastructure projects and improvements in its road networks that enhanced the safety, mobility, and convenience of motorists,” NLEx Corp. said in a statement on Friday.
Last year, the tollway operator opened the new F. Raymundo Exit in Barangay Pandayan for class 1 vehicles and finished widening the Meycauayan northbound exit ramp.
The new exit is an alternative route for those going to Iba/Camalig, Metrogate, Lias, Lambakin, and Pantoc, F. Raymundo and Antonio Streets. Meanwhile, the additional lane in Meycauayan northbound exit ramp will cater to motorists going to Malhacan.
It is also working on the P1.5-billion NLEx C5 Link Segment 8.2 (Section 1A) and NLEx Phase 3 Widening.
The C5 Link project is a 2-kilometer toll road linking Mindanao Avenue to Quirino Highway in Novaliches.
The road-widening project runs from NLEx San Fernando to Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway Spur in Pampanga. Included in this project is the installation of roadway lighting infrastructure and the construction of the Mexico interchange.
